Following the institution of the new drone registration rule from the Federal Aviation Administration, nearly 300,000 individuals have registered small unmanned aircrafts since Dec. 21st. FAA Administrator Michael Huerta said in a statement that the registration numbers the FAA is seeing so far are very encouraging. With the large increase in popularity of drones over the last few years, the FAA instituted a registration process for unmanned aircraft that weigh between 0.55 and 55 pounds. Now, before owners can legally fly their drones outside, they need to be registered through the FAA. According to Mashable, applications only cost $5, and registration lasts for three years.
